Laser Skin Resurfacing in Fredericksburg, VA

What is Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Laser skin resurfacing at Plastic Surgery Services of Fredericksburg is a noninvasive cosmetic procedure that uses pulsating beams of light to exfoliate dead and damaged skin cell layers. The procedure is performed to correct facial wrinkles and lines and diminish skin blemishes, including acne scars, pigmentation, and other flaws. Sometimes called a laser peel, fractional skin resurfacing is ideal for patients desiring clearer, softer, younger-looking skin. Depending on the skin's condition, the laser can be customized accordingly. There is little recovery time required for most laser skin resurfacing treatments. During your consultation, any questions or concerns can be discussed with Fredericksburg, VA plastic surgeons Dr. Howard Heppe, Dr. Harold Bautista, and Dr. Pejman Aflaki.

How Is Laser Skin Resurfacing Performed?

Throughout the process, you will relax in our special treatment chair while the laser handpiece passes over your skin, targeting the needed rejuvenation sections. You will feel the heat of the laser, followed by cold air from the built-in cooling system. The laser energy is designed to remove damaged and dead skin cells while also prompting new collagen growth.

What are the Benefits of Laser Skin Resurfacing?

At Plastic Surgery Services of Fredericksburg, we know that your skin can turn increasingly dry, dull, and lifeless with age. With laser skin resurfacing technologies, we are able to offer our Fredericksburg, VA patients a way to get more youthful skin with a procedure that gives multiple, wonderful perks, such as:

  • Smoothes rough skin texture
  • Minimizes the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and pores
  • Reduces the appearance of scarring and uneven pigmentation
  • Improves self-esteem concerning your facial looks

What Should I Expect After Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Following less aggressive resurfacing treatments, a healing ointment will be applied to the treated skin, and you can go home to recover. The skin will appear red, and there will be some swelling and irritation. This should subside in a few days, and the skin peeling process will occur for approximately 3 – 5 days. If you are getting a more intense laser procedure, your recovery period will take longer. Dressings will most likely cover the treated areas, and the swelling, irritation, and burning sensation may be intensified. Medication can be prescribed to minimize these side effects. The recovery from a more intense laser treatment can last 2 – 3 weeks. All patients must minimize sun exposure following their laser appointment and apply sun protection frequently. The skin will naturally flake, crust, and peel off regardless of intensity. It's important to avoid interfering with the healing process to prevent scarring and to shield your face from UV exposure. After the peeling is completed, your skin should feel smoother while looking clearer, rejuvenated, and younger.

I did my research and I found Dr Heppe was one of Northern Virginia’s top plastic surgeons. When I met Dr Heppe and his staff, I was very happy on how friendly and knowledgeable they were. On the day of my procedure, which is done in the building, I was very much impressed with how the process was done. All my questions and concerns were answered. I am a registered nurse, and I am acutely aware of when infection control procedures are followed and not followed, I absolutely felt safe in this environment. I am now three months out from my surgery and I am very much pleased with the results. I did not have any postoperative complications nor any infection. I honestly can highly recommend Dr.Heppe. I had a brachioplasty done and it’s the first time in 30 years that I’ve worn sleeveless tops and dresses. I wish I had done this earlier! Thank you to Dr Heppe and his staff. I have sent friends to him and they are pleased as well. Connie W RN

Five Stars are Not enough for Dr. Aflaki. I did revision rhinoplasty and I cannot thank him enough for such an amazing job he has done. The best decision I made. He is simply the best, number one plastic surgeon.

I had a breast augmentation with Dr. Bautista and I am so happy that I chose him. I came into the office because one breast was larger than the other. Dr. Bautista examined me and told me what he was able to do which was stitch up the larger breast so gravity wouldn't pull it down so hard after surgery. Nearly 3 months later they are sitting evenly and I'm so happy. The nurses were great as well. I had other medical doctors and they ensured I got a doctor's note to approve the surgery as well as making sure they honor my latex allergy. Everyone was so nice and the process was just so welcoming and amazing. Highly recommend!

Am I a Candidate for Laser Skin Resurfacing?

There are several factors to consider when choosing which type of laser skin resurfacing treatment is best for you. Laser skin resurfacing is ideal for anyone who is unsatisfied with their overall complexion. If you see sun-damaged skin, acne scars, age spots, fine lines and wrinkles, redness, or pigmentation concerns, a laser skin resurfacing procedure may help improve these cosmetic flaws. In addition, this treatment works wonders if you have rough texture, scaly patches, or other irregularities. Laser skin resurfacing isn't suggested if you have very dark skin tones or active acne. In addition, it is important to understand that there is a recovery period needed after laser treatments. Certain patients, based on the condition of their skin, may require as much as 2 – 3 weeks to recover.

What's the best type of resurfacing for me?

A team member can help you choose which laser resurfacing option will best meet your needs and goals during your initial consultation. The best treatment for you will depend on the health and condition of your skin, any skin issues, and how deep you want your treatment to go. The length of recovery time may also be a deciding consideration when choosing your treatment type. If you are in doubt, it's better to try a milder treatment then assess your results and adjust as needed for your next appointment.

How can I help my skin recover after a resurfacing treatment?

A member of our team will talk to you about ways to speed skin healing following your laser resurfacing treatment. The top rule is don't peel or pick flaking skin. Doing this could create long-term damage including scars. You need to skip all hair removal methods on the treated skin, which means no waxing, shaving, or depilatory creams. We will recommend an ointment to help soothe treated areas.

How much does laser skin resurfacing cost?

Laser resurfacing costs are based on the treatment you get. During your consultation, a team member will ask about your concerns and goals before reviewing the types of laser resurfacing available treatments. Then, a team member can help you select your resurfacing treatment and talk to you about costs. Plastic Surgery Services of Fredericksburg often runs treatment specials and discounted packages, so ask about current specials in your consultation.
