How Does Ear Pinning Work?
Ear reshaping surgery is completed using a form of anesthesia. In most cases, the incision is made near the back of the ear or within the inner ear. Cartilage may be removed or added during this procedure to create a smaller or larger appearance. It is common for both ears to be addressed during treatment to make sure they appear symmetrical. After this, the incisions are closed with sutures and bandaged so they stay protected.

Plastic Surgery Services of Fredericksburg Reviews
My experience has been truly life changing! Dr Heppe has been so supportive from day one. He was open and honest and answered all questions I had. From the first appointment to even after the procedure he has been so helpful and kind. Making the decision to finally have surgery on something I was so self conscious about was hard but the best decision I’ve ever made! Dr Heppe and staff have gone above and beyond to make sure I knew every step of the process and even came in on Thanksgiving day for my post op checkup. If you are even thinking about having something done go in and meet with them! You truly feel like a part of their family! If I could give more than 5 stars I would!!
Thank You Dr Heppe for Changing my Life - The decision to have this surgery has been on my mind for over 20 years. I fought with insurance for years to get a reduction approved. A friend of mine had used this practice for a surgery and highly recommended Dr Heppe! I can’t 100% agree with her. He listened to my concerns and answered all my questions. I felt truly heard and understood. The surgery went smooth and recovery has been great thanks to him and his staff. I’m only a week post opp and already see so many changes in my body and clothes! I’m truly thankful I found the right doctor and made the decision to do something for me!
Dr. Aflaki was my surgeon for my upper eyelid surgery and I can't say enough good things about the doctor and the staff (and my results!). Everyone was friendly and professional and all my questions were answered and my concerns addressed.
Best Experience! - Dr Aflaki is absolutely an amazing and talented surgeon. I have been to 3 others so I can honestly say he is one of the best. I trust him completely, he knows what he is doing. All of my incisions are healing so nicely. I am so impressed and just like WOW! He is non intimidating, he is calm, patient, he listens very carefully. His closures on the incisions are amazing, and that leads to minimal scarring. You do need to do your part and stay hydrated, eat lots of protein during recovery and listen to what they tell you. From day 1 I was like WOW! Little tiny lines, like thin lines, and now healing flat and getter lighter everyday. I am so happy. So relieved and will totally have surgery with him again in the future for sure. He is honest, he doesn’t push and he is very real. Everyone is the office is so nice, down to earth and they all care. Day of surgery was so easy. I didn’t wake up in pain at all. The pain was so very minimal, and I was very scared of that and I shouldn’t have been. He and his staff are there if you need him during recovery. I highly recommend him and his team.
Dr Aflaki is a truly amazing surgeon! His bedside manners are calm, genuine, real, very knowledgeable, patient, he listens very carefully and he is not intimidating at all. He redid my breasts after having to have a lumpectomy elsewhere. I now at 53 have the most beautiful breasts ever!! They are straight, full and I have feeling in them, not numb at all, I am so beyond happy and relieved. The whole process I was not nervous, I had 1000% faith in him and his team. It was sooooooooooo very easy and I wished I had not waited so long for this. The scaring is so minimal and I am just amazed. His closure and suturing are the best. He knows what he is doing and that is why I am healing so nicely because of how he performs his closures and following orders to be careful and not active during recovery!! I am so very thankful to him and to his team. They are all so very professional, non intimidating and real.

Is Ear Pinning Right for Me?
Otoplasty can be performed on all ages; however, it is common among young children and is suggested prior to reaching elementary school. By six years of age, this procedure is safe to be completed on a child. If you are self-conscious about the look and shape of your ears because they are misshapen or protrude outward, otoplasty can be considered to attain a natural-looking appearance. If you or your child suffer from a damaged earlobe, you are also a candidate for cosmetic ear surgery.

Ear Pinning FAQ
How much does ear surgery cost?
Ear surgery costs vary depending on the procedure being performed (ear pinning, shaping, earlobe repair, or a combination). Once our specialists have listened to your concerns and goals, we can create a personalized treatment plan and estimate the costs. To help you focus on the results you want rather than the financial aspect, our team accepts various payment methods, and we can assist you in finding low-interest medical financing.
Will the results of ear surgery last?
Typically, the ears grow faster than other parts of the face and body, which is why ear surgery can often be performed on younger patients with long-lasting results. Our specialists will evaluate your ears and discuss realistic expectations, including how long the results are likely to last. While gravity and age may affect other parts of the face and body, the impact on the ears is generally minimal. However, another surgery may be necessary if significant changes occur due to injury.
How old should my child be to consider otoplasty?
On average, children around 5 – 6 years old are ideal candidates for otoplasty. By this age, the ears are usually fully developed, but the cartilage and tissue remain soft, making them easier to shape. This age is also beneficial because it allows children to avoid potential teasing from classmates early in school. While many otoplasty patients are young children, our team also performs otoplasty on adults.
Do I need to have both ears done or just one?
Many issues, such as large or protruding ears, affect both ears, which means both may need to be addressed. During the procedure, our specialists will adjust both ears to make them as symmetrical as possible. However, if only one ear needs correction, its shape and size will be adjusted to match the other ear. We will inform you during your consultation whether one or both ears should be corrected.
What about fixing stretched or torn earlobes?
The trend of oversized earrings and ear gauges has made earlobe reconstruction a popular procedure. If you're considering earlobe surgery, schedule a consultation with our team. We will assess the damage and discuss the best approach to restore your earlobes.
Reshape Your Ears
While the ears are small, an abnormal shape, position, or size can significantly affect your appearance. Otoplasty (ear surgery) may help your child avoid teasing at school or help you if you have always felt self-conscious about your ears. Call Plastic Surgery Services of Fredericksburg in Fredericksburg, VA to schedule a consultation with Drs. Heppe and Aflaki to learn more about surgical ear reshaping.
