Chemical Peel in Fredericksburg, VA
What Is A Chemical Peel?
To provide the highest quality results from chemical peel treatments, Plastic Surgery Services of Fredericksburg provides you with options. Your medical-grade chemical peel with exfoliating solutions (such as salicylic, glycolic, lactic, and trichloroacetic acids) will give you healthier, smoother skin. At our Fredericksburg, VA practice, plastic surgeons Dr. Howard Heppe, Dr. Harold Bautista, and Dr. Pejman Aflaki offer chemical peel treatments that resolve skin abnormalities, including wrinkles, scars, fine lines, dry patches, hyperpigmentation problems, and more. Chemical peels remove damaged, dead skin cells by applying a specific solution on the skin, which causes the upper layer to slough off. As your skin recovers and starts to repair and rejuvenate itself, you will notice a smoother, clearer complexion. A chemical peel facial is a noninvasive method to make your complexion radiant and is used for the neck and face.
How Is a Chemical Peel Performed?
At your appointment at Plastic Surgery Services of Fredericksburg, we will have you lying in a comfortable position to administer your treatment. A team member will ensure the skin is cleaned before applying the customized solution to your face and/or neck. We will spread the solution onto the skin and allow it to work for a specific amount of time determined in your treatment consultation. Finally, we will clean the solution off your skin and put on a neutralizing agent. Patients should bring light sunscreen or a hat to wear outside after the peel to protect from UV exposure.
What Are the Benefits of A Chemical Peel?
According to the intensity of the peel, you can discover a combination of the following benefits from your session at Plastic Surgery Services of Fredericksburg:
- Evened and calmed skin tone
- Reduction of pores and other skin flaws
- Lessening of dynamic lines and aging marks
- Hydrated, enhanced skin texture
Plastic Surgery Services of Fredericksburg Reviews
I’ve got the Fraxel preformed on face with Kristine and she made sure I was comfortable throughout the entire treatment. Dr. B prescribed me a prescription to prep as well as a numbing cream for the day of. I arrived one hour earlier than my scheduled time to allow the numbing cream sit and settle. Then I had the Fraxel laser pass over several times and thankfully I had a cooling tube right by me which made the passes at the more painful setting much easier to go through. I’m still in the recovery phase, but it’s not as bad as a chemical peel. I have slight flaking, and it just look like I’m more flushed than usual. Looking forward to the results over the next months and can’t wait to go back for maintenance. Just make sure you follow the pre and post instructions to a T

Chemical Peel FAQ
How much does a chemical peel cost?
Dr. Heppe can discuss your costs in your consultation as soon as He has developed your custom treatment plan. Costs for a chemical peel will vary depending on the formula you get. Plastic Surgery Services of Fredericksburg takes several payment methods, and you can ask about current specials on facial treatments like chemical peels. You may also consider buying a package of several chemical peel treatments.
What level should I choose for my chemical peel?
The best chemical peel for you will depend on your unique skin needs and cosmetic goals. In your initial consultation with Dr. Heppe, He will help you decide which peel is best for your skin. Some factors you may consider are your general health, the type of skin you have, how deep you want the peel to work, how long you can spend in recovery, and what you want the peel to accomplish. Initially, it's better to select a lighter chemical peel and decide what you think of the results. After this, you and Dr. Heppe may adjust your treatment plan to discover the best type of peel for your skin.
Should I get a chemical peel or dermabrasion treatment?
Dermabrasion and chemical peels are both facial treatments that treat surface imperfections to make your skin a softer appearance. The main difference is that dermabrasion requires surgical tools (a rotating brush or shaving instrument) to remove the surface skin layer with a careful scraping process. A chemical peel applies a caustic solution to your skin to dissolve damaged skin cells. In your initial consultation, Dr. Heppe will explain the pros and cons of both options and help you decide if a chemical peel or dermabrasion is better for achieving your needs and goals.
Will my face hurt after a chemical peel?
Based on the chemicals used, you may feel some discomfort throughout the treatment and shortly after. If you choose a light peel, you may notice some stinging, but it goes away quickly with the use of a small fan. Deep or medium peels are good for deeper damage and offer results that last a long time; however, they typically cause greater discomfort. Topical anesthetics, medications, and ointments may be applied to help you feel more comfortable during your treatment. Dr. Heppe or a member of His team will go over post-treatment skin care to help your skin heal.
Can I combine a chemical peel with other treatments?
A chemical peel may be combined with another nonsurgical skin treatment at Plastic Surgery Services of Fredericksburg. During your consultation, be honest with Dr. Heppe when describing your skin issues so He can create a personalized treatment plan that delivers your best results. This might include an injectable treatment for wrinkles (such as BOTOX® or JUVÉDERM®) along with your chemical peel to refresh your whole appearance.
